Cheers for ABC Pacific Southwest
By now most ABCers have heard that the ABC of the Pacific Southwest has begun formal action to withdraw from the Covenant of Relationships with ABCUSA. This action was one that someone had to take sooner or later. The ABCUSA had already spiritually left covenant with its churches and regions by refusing to uphold biblical standards for churches associated with the national body. The idea that ABCUSA is a biblical Christian denomination is simply an organizational fiction.
For a long time I have felt that reformation in ABCUSA is possible only if a large group of churches leave in protest of denominational faithlessness, and thereby galvanize the remaining evangelical churches into becoming an ER Trauma Team striving to save the life of the patient.
I applaud ABCPSW, I cheer them. They have set the stage for Bible believing churches, regions, pastors, and laypeople to make their own choice to, either, aggressively work to bring the national organization to a biblical stance, or to finally give up on a denomination gone sour.
In spite of our history with ABCUSA, and our love for ABCUSA, it is time to consider the wisdom of the protestant reformer, Martin Luther. “It is better to be divided by truth, than united by error.”
